Chosen as the winner of flickrs “Strobist Sundays” group, in theme “Best Friend”.

My best friend’s currently in Costa Rica, so i had to shoot my second best friend, who always stays by my side, when I’m doing my creative work, and to take the last finish on my photographs.

My E-30 was in service , the E-510 doesn’t support RC-Flash, so the Metz had to be in the shoe, posed myself over the Book so the flash just helped out the light of the Macbook Pro itself.

Flash: -2EV, Slow, 180° with reflector card pointing down in front of the Book.

Drops XPLORED

I’m back on Flickr with a new Explore Shot, Drops posted to the Macro Mondays Theme “Drip, Drops & Splashes”…

To do some Drop shots, you have to do a lot of installation before.

You take a small tripod or similar and hang a plastic foodbag (it may be also one of those shopping bags but it should be leakproof) you fill it with water and make a pinhole in it, that gives you consistent drops in a regular interval. The bigger the hole more drops to fall in the same time. You can call this dps (drops per second LOL)

Now adjust your camera to fast shutter, and pose it on a tripod, to focus you may have your finger into the water where the drops land (Your Camera with a Macro lens may have troubles to focus the water, that’s why posing the finger there) You may also adjust the focus manually. Be Sure to change to manual focus after you focused successfully, so you doesn’t have to focus each try again, since the drops always fall at the same focal distance.

Modernizr

I think there are no web developers out there who never missed a if/else possibility in CSS. Modernizr extends CSS exactly with this feature. The problem nowadays is that usability and design often has its boundaries because there are still lots of antique browsers in use (since i read a article about how many people knows what a Browser exactly is, and was stunning at result of only around 20% do know it. A Browser is the application you use for surfing the web.).

So frequently developers don’t use some modern functions because they can mess up the usability, the layout or the design in browsers that don’t support that functions. For example rounded corners, @font-face (as I described in my article  ”@font-face: A Typographic Lovestory” ) often can’t be used because without this features the website becomes a mess.

But all those problems can be solved now, with a tiny JS script called Modernizr. Read More »

12 Reasons Why Twitter Beats Facebook

There are no Ads on Twitter

Unlike Facebook, there are none of those annoying “Test a Mac”, “Win an iPhone” or “Test your IQ” ads on Twitter, who appear to be from unserious companies attempting to overload your phonebill.

You can personalize your Twitter

Ok, Myspace was too much glitter and overloaded with flash and useless sparkles. But  Facebook won’t let you personalize your profile. Every Facebook profile just looks the same. As an example, myself, i’m not much into the white and blue style. Twitter let’s you load your own background image and customize the colors of your Twitter profile. That’s not too much to prevent Twitter to become a flash victim but enough to give it a personal touch. Read More »

@font-face: A Typographic Lovestory

Web-designers always had those boundaries of using only web-safe fonts like Helvetica, Georgia, Times etc. But now there seem to be a solution to embed fonts according to the web design. Besides of the design aspect, fonts are important because they can identify where the content belongs to, give a emotional association to the content and help the legibility of the content.

Finally a true solution to improve Typography in web-design exists. Actually @font-face already is there a moment ago already, but because Browsers didn’t supported it in the past, nobody was able to use this. But more and more Browser Developers heard the begging of web-designers and finally also Firefox, a little late, supports it with version 3.5. Version 2 did it as well, I’m just asking myself, “why the heck they removed the feature in FF3″? Read More »

  • Basil

Basil (Ocimum basilicum) pronounced /ˈbæzəl/ or /ˈbeɪzəl/), of the Family Lamiaceae (mints), is a tender low-growing herb.

Basil is a culinary herb prominently featured in Italian cuisine, and also plays a major role in the Southeast Asian cuisines of Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos.

The plant tastes somewhat like anise, with a strong, pungent, sweet smell.
